I am Ms. Tolson! I am a 1987 graduate of East St. Louis Senior High School. I attained my teaching degree from Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville twelve years later. What took me so long to get a four year degree? I always knew I wanted to be a teacher, but I took the long way to my goal. During that time, I served in the United States Army. Later, I came back to East St. Louis where I used my military training to become an X-ray technician at St. Mary’s Hospital. Then, I began my family. I became the biological mother of four sons who have brought many other children into my life over the years.
Once I received my degree, I subbed at different schools in St. Clair County before finding a home in District 189 where I always intended to teach. Still a resident of East St. Louis, my goal is to give back the same encouragement, hope and education that was instilled in me. I have taught at several schools in the district and I am proud to be at Dunbar working with the awesome staff and terrific community that are here. Over the years, I have had the opportunity to teach many grade levels and subjects. Now, a second grade teacher, I am ready for a new adventure in education!
